Delta County Public Art - 12/1/08
Applications are available at the Bonifas Arts Center for Upper Peninsula artists to design, create and install outdoor art for the first Public Art Competition. The competition, which has a goal of making art a part of the landscape throughout Delta County, will gift a different community each year with a piece of public art.
“We’re delighted that we can bring this about,” said Mollie Larsen, Arts Center Executive Director. “Through a very generous anonymous gift, we’ll be able to place pieces in public sites all around our county.”
The first year’s winning design will be placed in Escanaba’s Ludington Park. Works could include, but are not limited to, sculpture, ceramics, tiles, mosaics, self-contained fountains, or other projects.
A prize of $5,000 will include the cost of production and installation of the pieces. Submissions must be received by December 1, and the winner will be notified by December 30. Installation of the project must be completed by July 30, 2009.
