The Bonifas Arts Center has scheduled a number of classes and workshops during the next four months. The descriptions and registrations are now available online or at the Bonifas.

“This is an exciting new lineup,” said Corinne Haberstich, Bonifas education coordinator. “We hope more and more people will discover the BAC, that our community will grow, that everyone can find something to enjoy.”

New offerings will include hand drumming classes led by Lorne Watson Thursdays, starting Jan. 12 through Feb. 23, (a 6-week session with no class on Jan. 26), with a class for teens from 6 to 7 p.m. and an adult class from 7 to 8 p.m. Participants will learn basic techniques on congas, djembes, and other percussion instruments while creating ensemble music. The six classes are $40 for nonmembers and $32 for members and teens.

In her interview on 680 WDBC-AM, Carla Meyer said it includes traditional art workshops such as drawing with artist Brady Nelson and scratchboard art with Tracy Anderson.

"I really didn't know what scratchboard was," Meyer said. "It's very interesting and Tracy does beautiful work. It looks like a photograph. It does not look like what you think it is."

It also includes lifestyle type classes that are more unusual such as culinary arts, yoga and even yoga dancing.

"It's a combination of yoga, dance and music. There's a lot of big body movement. If you have problems with joints and stuff like that it can actually be done in a chair, so it should be very interesting," said Meyer.

As another new opportunity, Lori Taylor-Blitz will guide a four-week genealogy workshop Tuesdays, starting Jan. 17, from 6 to 8 p.m. The skill-building classes are $32 for nonmembers and $26 for members.

Starting in early January, returning favorites also will be available, including Ashtanga Yoga with Heather Budkis Mondays at 6 p.m. (starting Jan. 2), senior art with Diane Kribs-Mays (crocheting) Jan. 10 and 24 from 1 to 3 p.m., and toddler art Thursdays, starting Jan. 12, from 10 to 10:45 a.m. In addition, Jeana Harmon will offer two six-week belly dancing sessions Wednesdays, starting Jan. 11, from 6 to 7 p.m. Each session is $38 for nonmembers and $30 for members.
