TITLE: Facilities Manager

SUPERVISOR: Executive Director

 

Nature of Work

A Facilities Manager performs maintenance, safety and management tasks that promote a clean, accessible and safe environment for the Bonifas staff and visitors. Facilities manager monitors the safety and cleanliness of interior and exterior areas, performs routine maintenance on facilities, makes repairs as needed, schedules inspections and repairs with contractors/vendors, analyzes bids and quotes and presents proposals on facility related projects to the Executive Director and Building committee. Part of the Facilities Manager duties include custodial work, such as to clean and tidy the premises, setting up for events and classes or engage an additional custodial help. This position requires someone who is reliable, careful in their work, and has an alertness for spotting potential problems.  Facilities Manager works closely with the executive director and the Bonifas Building Committee to plan projects and high-cost facility needs, engage with outside contractors and report on the costs and developments.

 

Qualifications

  • General construction/building experience 
  • Understanding of electrical, heating and plumbing systems
  • Experience working and interacting with contractors and inspectors
  • Good interpersonal skills with people of all ages and backgrounds.
  • Experience in facility/building maintenance
  • Proven experience as custodian, janitor or in a similar role
  • Knowledge of making minor electrical and plumbing repairs.
  • Knowledge of safe disposal of chemical liquids and other hazardous components
  • Familiarity with landscaping and handyman practices
  • Attention to detail and conscientiousness
  • Flexible schedule as some weekend time can be required.
  • Computer skills (email) are desired, but not required.
  • High school diploma is preferred but not required

Essential Functions

 

  • Reviewing inspection reports and acting on it in accordance with the order of priorities, by either performing necessary repairs or hiring outside contractors
  • Performing routine maintenance of facilities and making repairs as needed, including plumbing and electrical if feasible 
  • Scheduling routine inspections and repairs with outside contractors 
  • Report major damages and oversee repairs
  • Ensuring spaces are clean and functional by taking out trash, dusting/wiping surfaces, sweeping and mopping floors, vacuuming carpets and mats, cleaning and sanitizing the kitchen, toilets, sinks, restocking disposables (e.g. soap)
  • Setting up the facility for classes and events (i.e. by arranging tables and chairs) and changing set-ups from one event/class to another – potentially on weekends.
  • Maintain outer premises by watering plants, mowing lawn and removing debris, snow blowing and salting sidewalks, shoveling and salting entrance steps/ramp and cleaning entrances 
  • Occasional supervision of volunteers or community service workers.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Examples of work

  • Reviewing the Property inspection report and creating an action plan of repairs and hire-outs 
  • Negotiating with outside contractors and reviewing the bids for the jobs 
  • Performing repairs to railings and porches of building
  • Repairing faucets, light switches, and installing light bulbs
  • Inspecting fire extinguishers monthly
  • Ensure the Bonifas has clean linens on hand for events and rentals. 
  • Washing windows
  • Replacing furnace filters
  • Checking sprinkler system air pressure
  • Setting up tables and chairs for classes
  • Returning dirty linens to dry cleaner and picking up clean linens
  • Wash and dry kitchen linens, art smocks, and rags (with in-house washer/dryer)
  • Some driving to pick up parts to help distribute lawn signs (for events), posters, and flyers
