Ashtanga yoga instructor Heather Budkis welcomes all to a free class designed for those that know nothing about yoga or simply want to know more Jan. 6 at 5:30 p.m. at the Bonifas Arts Center.
Attendees can listen and observe or wear comfortable clothes and try some beginners yoga, moving through the postures at a slower pace, said Budkis, also learning what happens during classes, meditation and breathing techniques, physical and mental benefits of yoga, and more.
The class is perfect for anyone who has been tempted to try yoga but felt uncomfortable or afraid, she said.
Attendees should feel free to ask questions during class, said Budkis, and are welcome to stay after class to get additional questions answered.
Yoga can improve flexibility, balance, and strength, helping people lose weight and get in shape, Budkis said, while calming the mind and thus decreasing anxiety. It strengthens people’s “mind-body connection,” making them more “in tune” with their bodies, she said.
