Library to host free artist talk on writing, art, Armenia

July 20, 2016  |  by Bonifas Arts Center

The Escanaba Public Library will host a free artist talk with Suzi Banks Baum, author, artist, and teacher, Aug. 9 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.

Baum will discuss the intersection of writing, art, and social good. She recently traveled to Armenia and interviewed women. There, women face domestic violence and rape, which often go unreported, as well as family and societal pressure to conform to restrictive expectations, she said, yet they complete creative work, and Baum will discuss Armenia as well as her own daily writing practice and hand-bound journals.

The talk is supported by the Bonifas Arts Center and Friends of the Library.
