The creations of area elders, participants in the Bonifas Arts Center Senior Art Program, can be viewed in the studio gallery through Feb. 23.

Their artwork, including wood burning and paper crafts, may inspire some viewers to get involved in the free Senior Art programs available at the Bonifas and Gladstone Senior Center, said Diane Kribs-Mays, instructor. Kribs-Mays’ creations also are on display, as well as photos of the artists at work.

The elders are beginners, trying different art forms for the first time, and Kribs-Mays has been impressed with their creations, she said.

Participation in the Senior Art programs is free thanks to the generosity of the Superior Health Foundation, said Pasqua Warstler, Bonifas artistic director.

Senior Art classes will continue from 1 to 3 p.m. the second and fourth Tuesday of each month at the BAC, and from 1 to 3 p.m. the second Friday of each month at the Gladstone Senior Center. In upcoming classes, elders will create alcohol-ink placemats and explore abstract painting.

The classes will be “fun and explorative,” with time to socialize and meet new people, said Kribs-Mays.
