Regional photographers can submit their work to “The Inspiring U.P” competition now through March 23.

Entrants will compete for awards to include cash, Purchase Prizes, and the chance to participate in a traveling show to the Center for the Arts Gallery at Mission Point Resort on Mackinac Island, said Pasqua Warstler, Bonifas Arts Center artistic director.

APPLICATION: Photo competition to highlight the Upper Peninsula

Photographers should submit shots taken in the Upper Peninsula. “Show us how the U.P. uplifts you,” said Warstler, whether the photos focus on natural resources, current industry, historic sites, people, or another aspect of the U.P.

Selected works will be shown in an exhibit April 6 through May 4 at the Bonifas alongside photography by Mike Olson, from Genesis Graphics in Escanaba, and Paul Arno Rose, of Garden, “two of our leading Upper Peninsula photographers,” said Warstler, with Olson and Rose serving as jurors and awards judges.

“We have huge support from OSF HealthCare, who will be purchasing work for their new Gladstone clinic,” said Warstler. “This is good business and good art strengthening community.”

The competition is open to all. Applications are available online or at the Bonifas. Anyone with questions can call 906-786-3833.
